JOIN THE HOMOSEXUAL INTIFADA!
I'm excited to be traveling to San Francisco on Wednesday for a conference, as The Castro seems to be the center of a surging gay terrorist network. See how they treat frumpy Christians who proselytize on Castro and 18th Street [via joe.my.god.]:
The Castro is a gay neighborhood, through-and-through, and is one of the most friendly and welcoming place I've ever been in America. But that gays who have just seen discrimination against them enshrined in the state constitution should get a little upset when fundamentalist Christians preach conversion or damnation to gaytown is not surprising. Is it loud and angry? Yes. Is it violent? Not really, at least in my opinion. If these folks had come to The Castro to buy some upscale doggie boutique items or some overpriced diner food or a mesh shirt or beers at Moby Dick's, they would have been ignored. But organized religion--the Mormon Church or the Catholic Church or just The Church--created a political issue, bankrolled it and pushed it, and they should now expect that their religious speech in public be treated as political and in some cases as political attacks against a subset of the body politic.
Now, this video from Palm Springs depicts a little violence, as Church Lady gets her makeshift cross tore down and stomped on.
Now, if Church Lady was bearing her cross on a pilgrimage and just happened to pass through the anti-Prop Protests, I would say bad form, gay folk. But again--The Church made this a political issue of this, and therefore the stage props of religion become political icons as well. Next time, carry a cross made out of railroad ties or something that can't be so easily smooshed under the dainty stilettos of angry queers.
See, sometimes when you launch a massive campaign to strip a group of a set of rights it was close to getting, they'll greet you with anger and voice.
Of course, all of this is Prince's fault, what with his sexy dancing, lady clothes, and lyrics suggesting you stick it wherever and do it with whatever...
