Minnesota's own Sarah Palin
I've been watching Minnesota's Michelle Bachmann go down in flames with glee all week. After her ridiculous, asinine comments on Hardball and her ineffectual attempts to lie away what she clearly said, her opponent has raised buckets of cash from all over the country and the NRCC has pulled its advertising for Bachmann, totally about a million dollars, from now until the election.
I love Minnesota, but not enough that I'm not happy to see the rednecks and the "fools for Christ" that got her elected in the first place embarrassed on the national stage.
What do I mean by "fools for Christ?" Ask Bachmann herself:
She's an absolute freak, a shopping trip at Neiman Marcus away from crazy religious compound territory.
But just as so many people outside of Minnesota are learning about this demagogue for the first time, we Minnesotans just merely /palmface at her latest embarrassing misstep. She's said stupid things about Iraq, tried to make out with George Bush, complained about being held against her will in a women's bathroom, and her charming comment that we needn't do fuck-all to end global warming because Jesus has already saved the planet!
All of this is reminding me of a little controversy that spread across gay Twin Cities blogs back in January, 2005, about a blog purported to have been written by Bachmann's son Lucas on coming out. There still on my website, and you can read about it here and here. Now, I'm not trying to reignite a controversy here, because I don't think there is one. My belief to this day is that the blog entries were faked in some sort of creative ruse. But, might be interesting nonetheless to any readers out there who remember the little bit of fun and intrigue we enjoyed a few years ago.
