Joe McCarthy in heels
I'm immensely pleased that Minnesota's witch of a congresswoman, Michelle Bachmann, has again been publicly humiliated on a national stage. Speaking on Hardball yesterday, Bachmann inanely repeated the favorite McCain talking points of late: "librul" "leftist" and "anti-American" while at the same time calling for a new MCarthyism to investigate members of Congress for anti-American views!
Seriously as dumb as lip gloss, Bachmann doesn't even seem to be aware of how idiotic she sounds....it's so Fifies! Seriously, if Leave it to Beaver had had a wicked neighbor antagonist who went around garroting well-meaning Black preachers and community organizers with her pearl necklace, Bachmann would have fit the role perfectly.
Personally, the line I find most offensive is her effusive approval of those who are "wild about America." Listen. America isn't a college football team. It's a country. Whose leaders do good things and bad things in its name. What does being wild for America entail? Wearing face paint? Sloganeering? Jingoism? Frankly, it's not a bad thing to be a bit anti-American. That doesn't necessarily mean joining the Weather Underground. It means being critical and skeptical of flimsy cocktail dresses like Bachmann. People like her make me wish we could go back to the days when we were allowed to throw rotten cabbages at these people.
There's a silver lining to Bachmann's latest performance: her Democratic challenger, Elwyn Tinklenberg, raised over $640,000 in one day from across the nation.
