SQuja' and the ghost of Kahless past
When you first start dating someone new, you take some time to get to know them.
You find out what makes them tick.
What gets their goat.
Getting to know someone often means doing something you wouldn't normally do.
Which is how I found myself at a production of A Klingon Christmas Carol on the St. Paul Campus on Saturday night. You can see some photos of the performance here.
The Hoff is a major Star Trek fan. I can deal with that; it's all cool; nerds are hot. So he was excited to go. I've got nothing against Star Trek, but I wouldn't call myself a fan, and I learned on Saturday that I can't even tell the difference between a Ferengi and a Romulan!
The production was, at times, incredibly disturbing! This is what you get when you translate Dickens into Klingon. What does that actually look and sound like? You can check out this video of rehearsals I found on YouTube. The sounds! The costumes! The audience members. I was right that there was a high quotient of queers present, but even more big bearded nerds in their late thirties who shouted things like gargh! and eeergh! at the end of the show.
The production got a standing ovation.
I scored some major points with The Hoff.

klingon christmas carols | could spock and captain kirk be gay? | doris lessing's nobel prize acceptance speech | drain my nut sauce | bear parade | huh | happy holidays!
Posted by jason at December 10, 2007 3:47 PMYou're not even mentioning the audience member who wore a Star Trek uniform in.
Yes, the show was as entertaining for the audience members as for the production itself.

I have mighty confusion.
I am mist locked in their time.
They made it hard to figure out.
It is indeed intricate fabrication.

Posted by: jason at December 12, 2007 11:01 AMWait, do they actually speak the whole thing in Klingon? Is it subtitled like an opera? Oh my god, we have to talk about this.
