Somniloquy

exorcist_2_07

Somniloquy is the phenomenon of talking in one's sleep.

I've been known to talk in my sleep--and it's not uncommon for me to wake myself up in the early morning hours shouting at some dreamy apparition who won't put out or won't get out.

But while staying in Boston I shared futons with Tom, who became the latest witness to my outbursts. On Friday night I was using my inside voice, but on Saturday night I suddenly shouted, "HEY! GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE!" In my dream I was shouting at a lawyer who had almost tortured my cat to death and so the outburst made perfect sense to me but Tom, not party to the context, was freaked out.

Boyfriends typically have got the brunt of abuse when I talk in my sleep, as sometimes the words appear directed to them, and are accompanied by kicks or fists. One boyfriend got freaked out when I tried to push him out of bed while shouting at him, "get the fuck away from me!" and another thought I was awake and lucid when I calmly turned to him and said, "I hate you, you know." In the morning I just smile and act all coy and buy them flowers or something to prove that it was only a dream...

Are you going to the Of Montreal concert? Last time he pulled someone half up out of the audience to make out with him after he spent a good few minutes laying on the edge of the stay so people could rub his body. O_o

I do the same but my dreams never match what I say. I know this because I record myself sleeping. If you are curious to what other somniloquists are saying check out my Somniloquy Revelations
