Myspace: band spam

Carbon Carousel really wants to be my friend on myspace. I had to deny them twice and them I sent them a message saying, please, no more...I don't like your band. Here's what I got as a reply:

I apologize. We usually keep track of the denials and leave those people alone. I would suggest blocking us so this never accidentally happens again.

By the way, we have sold over 150 of these c.d.'s on line since last week.
My last record broke 30,000 independantly.
I helped start a million dollar a year record company called rhymesayers by doing stuff like this.

Beleive me, it helps me more than it hurts me.

I denied your friend request yesterday--please no more band spam! It hurts you more than it helps you.

peace

I'm 'friends' with the bands I want to be friends with on that ridiculous site. I can't believe how much band spam I still get. Still though, cool to see that it works. Probably better returns than if Rhymesayers sent me an email with the subject line "Satisfy your woman, you pin dick!"

I got so sick of MySpace band spam, fake friend requests that were for profiles that were ads for porno sites, and random oddball friend requests that I changed my settings so someone has to know my primary email address or last name to add me. That doesn't stop the spam MySpace emails, but I don't seem to get those terribly often.

There is a way to prevent bands from making friend requests on MySpace: From your home screen, go to Account Settings, then choose Privacy Settings. There's an option to "Block Friend Request From Bands". (Oddly, I'm pretty sure that I had that option selected, but now that I'm looking, it isn't.. I'm not sure if there's a bug there or if I'm just being my normal absent-minded self. I haven't been getting band friend requests, though..)

Ah. I see what's going on. I have the option for "Require email or last name to add me as a friend" selected. Since most bands don't know either one, I don't get that spam..

Why you just complain directly to Rupert Murdoch?
