State Fair off year
I tend to visit the Great Minnesota Get Together every other year; last year was an on year; this year's an off year. I can only deal with the spike in blood sugar, the blasting right-wing radio hosts, plodding yokels in stretch pants, bags of free pens and paper, and gi-normous pigs once every 730 days. Other people in other states...you just can't appreciate how different our state fair is. For ten days it becomes this giant black hole that sucks the life out of the Minnesota zeitgeist. Everyone and everything that's nothing...all the major news channels, radio stations, every politician and pot-bellied pig decamps to the confines of the fairgrounds. I am just slightly sorry that I missed the Flaming Lips performance early on.
Luckily, thanks to Overheard in Minneapolis, it's just like I'm there.
